What Do Cats Really Do When We’re Not Home?​

We like to think our cats miss us when we’re gone. Maybe they sit by the window, sighing dramatically, waiting for our return. But let’s be honest, cats are mysterious little creatures, and their solo routines are probably far more entertaining (and chaotic) than we imagine.

Here’s what I suspect goes down when the humans leave:

• Furniture Olympics: That “no cats on the counter” rule? Forgotten. They leap from couch to shelf like furry ninjas.
• Roleplay Time: Your cat becomes the ruler of the kingdom, surveying their domain from atop the fridge.
• Sock Heist: One sock disappears. Then another. You’ll find them months later in a secret stash behind the dresser.
• Security Cam Stars: If you’ve ever set up a pet cam, you know the truth—cats stare directly into the lens like they’re plotting something.
• Nap Nirvana: They sleep. A lot. But in places they know they’re not supposed to—your laundry basket, the sink, your pillow.
• Bug Patrol: Any insect foolish enough to enter becomes a target in the feline Hunger Games.

Some people can be so stubborn!! But cats are wonderful and they're a joy to have around the house

This is so true! One thing I do know, back when we had Smokey, she always used to sit and wait on the stairs, and she would make such a pitiful meow like she was looking for me. We only know this because she did it one day, not realising that even though I had gone out, someone was in the house.
